Some sort of interdisciplinary studies, probably involving philosophy. If I had gone into some field of science other than physics, it would have most likely been cognitive psychology. Studying the human mind is COOL! There are so many things that I want to know, like how memory works!
I probably would like to work for a charity such as the Red Cross, and help those in developing countries. I like helping those in need, and I feel like I can make a small difference there. Sometimes I think I may have made more of a difference if I studied medicine but I wasn’t very good at biology and found the things I learnt about plants boring. Looking back on it now I think it might have been a good idea to study biology at A-levels and at least give it more of a try.
Not totally unrelated to science, but I’ve always be interested in how things work – so I’d probably do something involving engineering. I love BIG engineering like the building of the Channel Tunnel, or the Hangzhao Bay bridge.
I wish the Space Shuttle programme was still running , I’d love to have been involved in that.
I would have liked to have been a private detective. I’m a very curious person so I need to understand things and solve problems. I’ve read all the Sherlock Holmes stories and am obsessed with the current BBC show.
The trouble is, most problems that humans have are self-created, and involve less-than-respectable behavior. I wouldn’t want to spend every day exposed to this; I prefer to spend my energies on the nobler struggles of humankind, not the uglier. Oscar Wilde put this beautifully as, “We are all of us in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.”
