If you like challenges and solving problems, always learning something new, and not doing the same thing day-in day-out then a science/physics related job is the way to go!
One thing which often puts people off studying physics is the maths involved.
Now, I was never any good at maths, but really loved physics and was worried this would hold me back from pursuing a physics career – but it never has! Some of the world’s best physicists consider themselves to be the *worst* at maths 🙂
So I say: if you like a challenge, enjoy solving puzzles and thinking creatively then working in physics is ideal field for you!
If you like using your mind and your hands; if you like building things, and playing with cutting edge technology; if you like the idea of being the first person to discover something new, then physics is a good choice for you!
Within physics, there are many different area — particles and nuclear and optical and materials and so on. There is theory and there is experiment. Some areas require more maths, some require more programming, some require more hardware building. You don’t need to be good at all of it; you find an interesting question that plays to YOUR individual strengths.
The ability to have the following conversation. When people ask what you do, you reply “Have you ever heard of Einstein?” When they say yes, you reply “That’s what I do.”
